Job Purpose
* Contentious Probate Associate Solicitor (2‑5 years PQE) to join the Regional Dispute Resolution Group, based in Brighton, Horsham or Guildford.
* Develop good working relationships with clients and other team members.
* Undertake a variety of contentious trusts and probate work, including inheritance act claims, Executor/Trustee disputes, breach of trust claims, validity of Will challenges and claims relating to breach of Executor duties.
* Work under supervision on own caseload and meet fee targets.
* Achieve billing, time recording and fee targets as defined by the Head of Department.
Responsibilities And Duties
* Promote the vision and culture of the firm.
* Continuously develop own technical expertise.
* Lead projects or initiatives where appropriate.
* Coach junior team members and set a consistent client care approach.
* Supervise junior assistance on projects or matters.
* Share knowledge informally and through formal training when required.
* Manage day‑to‑day client matters, meeting time limits and keeping files in good order.
* Support all team members in fee‑earning, business development and administration.
* Achieve own financial targets, including fees, contribution and debt payment.
* Monitor performance in file numbers, closures, openings, billing and time recording.
* Maintain accurate information on Case Manager and intranet.
* Scope matters appropriately, using budget templates and delivering on time and on budget.
* Take part in business development activities and attend seminars and events.
* Maintain awareness of the legal market and strategic commercial issues affecting the team.
* Contribute to business development initiatives through marketing information, seminar support, article writing and pitch support.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
* Prior experience dealing with contentious trusts and probate matters.
* Good understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules.
* Commercial, pragmatic and not overly academic approach.
* Experience working closely with clients as a legal advisor.
* Experience managing and developing client relationships.
* Willingness to contribute to business development (preferred).
* Understanding importance of client care with ability to manage diverse client objectives.
* Effective time management to meet client and internal deadlines.
* Teamworking, delegating and supporting partners.
* Confident Excel skills sufficient for matter review.
* Competent IT skills including Outlook, Word, Digital Dictation and iManage.
* Draft documentation with attention to detail.
* Understanding of the firm strategy and vision.
