We have created an exciting new opportunity for a Deli Assistant to join us at our stunning Steepleton, Tetbury development. About our role You will be responsible for the deli's daily service, from baking fresh goods and preparing a variety of hot and cold food to providing friendly, high-quality barista service. This is a role where you will multitask, managing food orders and payments efficiently while building a personable rapport with our residents. Beyond service, you will manage our full open and close process, ensuring our site is pristine and secure. You will oversee essential Food Standards Agency compliance, including daily hygiene paperwork, accurate allergen labeling, and efficient stock control with a keen eye for detail and cost efficiency. This position offers a unique blend of creativity and business management, requiring you to be comfortable working independently to deliver a safe, welcoming, and well-stocked social hub every day. Your day to day responsibilities will include Executing the deli's opening and closing procedures. Baking and preparing a variety of food and drinks. Operating the till system and processing payments. Maintaining high standards of service without direct supervision. Diligent execution of daily cleaning schedules. Maintaining a good working knowledge of FSA practices, including completing all daily, weekly, and monthly hygiene paperwork and temperature logs. Ensuring all food is clearly labeled, accurately representing allergen information. Managing efficient stock control, including monthly stock takes and wastage management. Sourcing fresh stock from local supermarkets within an agreed weekly budget. Acting as a familiar and friendly face to build rapport with the retired community. Two people each covering a combination of these shifts totaling 8.5 hours (e.g., one person works Tue/Wed, the other works Thu/Fri). Occasional flexibility regarding working hours and/or location may be required to support special events, staff training & annual leave, or operational needs. About you You'll have a blend of creativity, commercial acumen and great people skills, you'll be comfortable working independently delivering a welcoming and well stocked social hub. Qualifications & Experience A valid Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to undergo training immediately upon hire). Prior allergen training is preferred, or a commitment to completing training for full FSA compliance. A solid understanding of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health). Demonstrated ability to work solo, manage time effectively, and take initiative. Proven experience in face-to-face customer service. Experience in a food-led environment is preferred but not essential. Previous experience with till and/or EPOS systems is an advantage, but an aptitude for learning is essential. A warm, engaging, and patient personality, specifically suited to building rapport with a retired community. A meticulous approach to record-keeping, labeling, and display standards.
