Job Description Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for a Communications Officer to join our Communications Team, working from home. You will join us on full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a salary of £26,173 per annum. About the Communications Officer role: Royal Voluntary Service is developing a game-changing new digital platform to boost volunteering in Britain — made possible thanks to £5 million in funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery. This platform is being built in response to the significant volunteer shortage facing charities across the UK. Research suggests that up to 164 million additional volunteering hours per month could be unlocked if flexible, digital access to opportunities was available. Launching in Autumn 2025, the platform will remove barriers to volunteering, making it easier for people to give their time and for organisations to recruit and retain the support they need. What you’ll bring to the Communications Officer role: Joining us as Communications Officer for Royal Voluntary Service, you will use your experience to support the development and delivery of effective communications to the charity’s external and internal stakeholders. For external communications, you will be responsible for supporting with communications to audiences including members of the public, charities and corporates, to raise awareness and engagement with the digital volunteering platform and marketplace. You will also develop compelling internal communications for volunteers, staff and supporters. Hours: 35 per week Location: Homebased with occasional national travel Job Requirements This is what we're looking for: Knowledge A BA or equivalent qualification or demonstratable experience is required A professional qualification from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations or the Chartered Institute of Marketing can be helpful. Skills This is a role which requires confident writing at pace. The post holder is required to write in a variety of styles for our different communications channels in a way that is engaging, grammatically correct and appropriate, maintaining the RVS tone of voice. Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook Managing effective, mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders and colleagues at all levels Strong communication skills across all levels, internal and external Creative thinking and problem solving Attention to detail Experience At least two years working in a comms environment Experience using an email marketing platform, i.e. dotdigital or Mailchimp. Effectively juggling multiple projects and deadlines at the same time and to a high standard Job Responsibilities This is what you'll be doing: Supporting the Senior Communications Manager, Communications Manager, Senior Team and workstream / project leads to facilitate effective delivery of the communications strategy and key messages to staff, volunteers and external stakeholders. This will be through channels including newsletters, email updates, texts, webinars, presentations, visual briefings, seminars. Support with communications for internal and external audiences, staff, volunteers and external stakeholders and prospects. Producing compelling, snappy copy and sourcing appropriate content including banners, video, infographics etc to engage our volunteers and supporters as well as our staff. Designing and building comms campaigns across our email platforms; Dotdigital, Microsoft Dynamics and HubSpot. Supporting with the segmentation of contact data and providing analytical reporting of contact data where required. Using email marketing best practice to increase engagement of comms through testing and evaluation, analysing the impact of our e-marketing programme and providing suggestions to improve success and maximise campaign effectiveness. Measuring the impact and effectiveness of our e-comms to make improvements as required. Feeding into regular reports to develop future goals. Managing the Virtual Coffee Meetings for staff, working with colleagues to produce content, supporting Q&As in the sessions. Managing staff communications – including the weekly staff comms (The Loop) and Retail comms (Retail Round Up) and posting on HiBob. Supporting with creating and sending of online surveys Setting up webinars for all audiences as required and supporting with promotion and technical support. Supporting the creation and build of nurture journeys in HubSpot. As a member of the comms team there may be times when you will be asked to support with any urgent comms over the weekend.
