Air transport is vital to the economy and daily life. This role is within the Environmental Consents team in London and focuses on navigating the environmental consenting landscape for airport expansion, including planning applications, EIA, airspace change proposals, and support for DCO examinations and planning inquiries.
This is a strategic role offering the chance to identify, win, and deliver multi-disciplinary inputs for aviation projects. You will lead and coordinate environmental contributions across project designs and assessments and oversee recruitment, bidding, project delivery, and financial management.
Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate environmental contributions across project designs and assessments for aviation projects.
* Direct and manage projects including recruitment, bidding, team management, delivery, and financial oversight.
* Grow the aviation sector offer by collaborating with sector leads and client account managers to drive thought leadership and win new business.
* Provide environmental advice and support to clients, project managers, and colleagues; promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement.
* Lead large, complex projects with attention to technical quality, safety, and commercial performance.
* Build strong client relationships and identify opportunities to support project strategy, resourcing, and delivery.
* Develop proposals for complex opportunities, deliver strategic bids and frameworks, and pursue business development initiatives.
* Champion innovation through Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, and Future Ready initiatives.
* Drive performance improvement and career development across the team; promote an inclusive and positive team environment; mentor colleagues.
* Ensure Health and Safety considerations are integrated with WSP values and wellbeing culture.
* Contribute to the overall success of the WSP business strategy and maintain self-motivation toward role, team, and project goals.
What we will look for you to demonstrate
* Relevant environmental or planning degree (or equivalent experience), with chartered status or working toward chartership.
* Experience delivering Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for aviation schemes under UK planning regimes (Town and Country Planning Act, Planning Act 2008); awareness of Transport Works Act 1992 is beneficial.
* Familiarity with consenting processes for aviation projects, including Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) and Environmental Permit applications; understanding how these integrate with planning and EIA for airport expansions, airspace change, or infrastructure upgrades.
* Strong client communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience engaging regulators and the public.
* Knowledge of emerging environmental and planning policy trends.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong report writing, attention to detail, and quality assurance.
* Proven people management experience and a track record of developing internal teams.
* Ability to contribute to strategic planning, win new work through bids and proposals, and enhance reputation in the aviation sector.
