We are looking to welcome a friendly, polite and professional individual to join our Recovery Team, to work alongside colleagues with a focus on collecting unpaid Council Tax and Business Rates. This role will bring a variety of work each day, and you will deal extensively with the public. We are therefore looking for someone with great communication skills and the ability to multi-task. A key objective is to assist with helping people to get out of cyclical debt. This will involve taking and making phone calls from customers and, where appropriate, liaising with our Help Hub and internal debt advisors. Working on non-routine recovery reports and cases, and deciding on the best form of recovery action, you will also deal with cases where the council is taking bankruptcy or insolvency action, liaising with the defaulter concerned and with the council's legal advisors where necessary. You will liaise with external agencies such as the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP) and Enforcement agencies and will also have the opportunity to attend the Magistrates Court to obtain liability orders. About You You will have demonstrable experience of providing customer service, ideally within the Council Tax and NDR environment, together with experience of resolving complex customer queries with successful complaint handling and resolution. You will need to have demonstrable influencing skills and the ability to negotiate, together with good planning, organisational and time management skills. You will also need to be able to stay abreast of legislation and policies related to Council Tax and NDR administration and recovery. Closing Date: 18 January 2026 Interview Date: 22nd/23rd January 2026 Why Join Us? We offer flexible working hours for most office-based roles, allowing for a healthy work-life balance. As part of our team, you will enjoy a range of employee benefits, including free onsite parking, employee discounts, a competitive holiday allowance, wellbeing initiatives, and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. You will be joining a progressive and supportive organisation that is committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve.
