Position: Head of Policy and Advocacy
Type: Maternity Cover (12 months)
Salary: £54,000 p/a pro rata (client is looking for either 4 or 5 days a week)
Work arrangement: Hybrid, three days in the office
We are recruiting a Head of Advocacy and Policy for a London-based charity focused on ending hunger and malnutrition internationally.
This is a one-year fixed-term contract providing maternity cover.
The successful candidate will have experience working with senior politicians, opinion formers, and high-profile stakeholders. A keen understanding of international development policy and parliament processes is essential. Previous experience in international development is preferable but not mandatory.
The role involves leading Advocacy and Policy efforts within the organization, requiring a highly motivated self-starter comfortable in a fast-paced, autonomous environment.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, candidates should demonstrate effective collaboration with senior stakeholders and team delivery.
Required skills and experience:
* Senior-level experience in public affairs, advocacy, or policy roles.
* Excellent understanding of UK politics and international development policy.
* Experience working with politicians to promote organizations and influence public policy.
* Proven ability to work with high-profile stakeholders and develop advocates for the organization.
* Strong project management skills.
* Effective team collaboration and senior stakeholder management experience.
Responsibilities include:
* Managing and implementing advocacy and policy strategies and programs.
* Coordinating the work of an APPG.
* Organizing domestic and international visits to promote the organization's work and raise awareness about ending malnutrition and hunger.
* Identifying opportunities for public speaking and engagement for leadership.
* Building relationships with government officials, ministers, MPs, and sector stakeholders.
* Drafting parliamentary questions, ministerial correspondence, inquiries, and event reports.
* Partnering with the Head of Campaigns and Communications to commission polling and research, providing political and policy analysis.
Terms and Conditions: The role is a fixed-term maternity cover (12 months), full-time, based on a minimum of three days in the London Bridge office. Flexible working requests will be considered. Salary is £54,000 plus a benefits package.
