Overview
Building a sustainable tomorrow. KierBAM, a joint venture between Kier and BAM UK & Ireland, is seeking an Assistant Survey Manager for a redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site in Plymouth. The role involves supporting the Survey Manager in coordinating site surveys, maintaining data accuracy, supporting QA/QC documentation, and ensuring alignment with project specifications and industry standards.
Security
Due to the high‑security military site, a BPSS level of security clearance is required. Checks can take up to 8 weeks. Only individuals holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and who have been UK residents for the last five years are eligible.
Location & Contract
* Location: Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth
* Contract: Permanent, 42.5 hours per week
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the Survey Manager in all surveying activities, leading a growing team of surveyors and technicians.
* Maintain survey control networks and total station (ATS) systems using Leica GeoMoS.
* Execute manual monitoring programmes, machine control for excavation, and as‑built scanning.
* Prepare survey reports, drawings, and data outputs for engineering teams.
* Oversee survey equipment calibration and operation.
* Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
* Implement QC1 quality control procedures and maintain traceability.
* Manage and archive survey files and records.
* Attend daily briefings and communicate survey progress.
* Ensure all works comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Perform other tasks within your capabilities as required.
Qualifications
Essential
* Degree, diploma, or relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Construction.
* Significant experience surveying industries.
* 3‑5 years in a senior survey manager or similar position.
* Familiarity with total stations, GPS/GNSS, laser scanners, and software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leica Infinity, Leica Cyclone, Leica 3DR).
* Understanding of QC1 procedures and civil quality documentation.
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
* CSCS card and relevant site safety qualifications, SMSTS/SSSTS preferred.
* Member of a professional body (e.g., CinstCES) or working towards full membership.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Desirable
* Experience on major infrastructure or utilities projects (highways, rail, water, energy, nuclear).
* Knowledge of BIM or digital construction processes.
* First aid and additional safety training certifications.
