We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you would work under the direction of the teacher to support the implementation of specialised education programs and contribute to an inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students.

Suitable applicants should display a commitment to collaborate and the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students, parents, staff, and the wider community. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are highly desirable. You should ideally be adaptable and capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team, including in busy or high-pressure situations. A calm, positive, and professional manner is desirable, along with the initiative to support the care, wellbeing, and engagement of students.

You should have the capability to support students with complex behaviours using proactive, consistent, and supportive strategies. You should display resilience, aligned with our core values, maintaining a composed and solution-focused approach when responding to challenging situations, while always prioritising student dignity, safety, and inclusion.

It is desirable that suitable applicants have an excellent understanding of supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Specific Learning Disabilities, along with a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice to effectively meet the diverse and complex needs of students. Additionally, knowledge of synthetic phonics, particularly the Sounds-Write program, will be highly advantageous.
