Our Clandeboye site is one of Fonterra’s largest and most advanced manufacturing facilities, processing around 40% of the South Island’s milk supply and producing world-class dairy products for more than 50 global markets. Within this hub of innovation, the Clandeboye Laboratory plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, safety, and consistency of our products.
Our laboratory team provides essential technical support across cheese, butter, milk powders and protein products. From sensory evaluation and Consumer testingto data analysis, the lab ensures every product meets strict quality standards and regulatory requirements. Equipped with modern technology and operating alongside cutting-edge production lines—including one of the world’s largest milk dryers and advanced mozzarella and butter plants—the lab is integral to maintaining Fonterra’s reputation for excellence.
Mō tēnei tūranga | About the Opportunity
We have a permanent opportunity for a Sensory Laboratory Technician to join us in our Clandeboye Laboratory. This is a hands-on role where you’ll play a key part in ensuring the quality and consistency of our dairy products.
As a Sensory Laboratory Technician, you’ll be responsible for preparing samples for sensory analysis, interpreting and releasing results and supporting the wider team with Sensory Panel Training
Your day-to-day will include:
* Preparing and evaluating samples for sensory and functional analysis.
* Performing routine testing and data entry using our systems.
* Maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment to high standards.
* Supporting health, safety and food safety systems while adhering to regulatory requirements.
Operating on a 3 on 3 off roster pattern (6.00am to 6.00pm), this role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical, detail-oriented work, doesn’t have an allergy to dairy products, and is comfortable being on their feet throughout the day.

While this is an entry-level position, we are looking for someone who is collaborative, solution focussed and eager to learn. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment and take pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work.
Key attributes and skills include:
* A passion for science (Sensory, Food Science or similar qualification is helpful).
* Experience in laboratory work, food handling, quality assurance or dairy manufacturing is desirable.
* Understanding of basic food safety principles.
* Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
* Ability to work collaboratively and manage a high volume of work.
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Excellent time management and the ability to think on your feet.
* Comfortable standing for extended periods.
