This is an exciting opportunity to join the Private Sector Housing Team where you will be able to excel and develop your career within a fast-paced team environment, working together to deliver a high quality, responsive housing service managing the demands and expectations of customers.
Due to the specialist nature of this role, it is essential that you are already trained as competent in and have direct experience of using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) to identify property conditions and risks and have working knowledge of relevant legislation covering private sector tenancies, including the new Renters Rights Act. Where improvements are required, you will ensure that works are carried out to the required standards within agreed timescales.
You will work in an agile environment providing support to the Bridlington office tackling non-compliant landlords and improving housing standards.
We seek an individual educated to degree level or equivalent in a subject relevant to the post with significant direct experience of working in a local authority regulatory officer role. You must be experienced in carrying out complex investigations and inspections, undertaking PACE interviews, taking witness statements, writing reports, serving notices as well as having direct experience or being trained in the giving of evidence in court. A qualification relevant to the work of the Private Sector Housing team would be advantageous as would examples of joint working with external partners.
You will also provide a pivotal point of contact for local landlords and local residents and should therefore have plenty of creative solutions and be motivated by the challenges we face. You will also assist in delivering training and will work with the Principal Officer (Private Sector Housing) to lead on projects with the ability to prioritise work to ensure deadlines are met. You will also be self-sufficient and required to work with minimal supervision to complete tasks and manage your own workload.
We seek a team player, who is keen to learn and develop your skills further building on the already gained practical knowledge of housing and private sector housing legislation, with a good understanding of how the service impacts on safeguarding and public safety issues. Excellent ICT/communication skills are also required as is the ability to deal with confrontational situations to manage and deal with challenging situations with ease.
Based at Town Hall, Bridlington as the main location however, the council operates a blended approach of working which involves working from the office, in the community or occasionally from home.
The role will include travelling to all areas within East Riding of Yorkshire therefore a full current driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
Hours: 37 per week as part of a full-time, permanent contract.
