Offer description

DeepForm Ltd is an early-stage start-up company introducing patented sheet metal pressing technology which significantly reduces waste, cost and embodied CO2 emissions in the high-volume manufacturing of sheet metal components. DeepForm optimises material use by reimagining metal sheet forming tooling.

We are an exciting University of Cambridge spin-out company founded in 2022. Having secured external investment and formed a strategic alliance with well-known automotive manufacturers we are working towards industrialising our technology within multiple customer projects. This is an exciting time to join at the early stages in the company’s mission to reduce waste and embodied emissions in the manufacturing sector.

As a technology and design company, DeepForm does not manufacture press tooling but designs and simulates die surfaces and is heavily involved in providing support to OEMs and toolmakers to ensure tools based on the patented DeepForm fold-flow process work successfully in production.

As a Press Tooling Delivery Engineer, you will be part of the Simulation and Project Delivery Team. You will work towards making sure the press tools designed by the DeepForm Team meet the requirements set out by our customers and deliver the results predicted by the simulations developed by Simulation Engineers that are part of the same team.

Salary range: £40,000 to £65,000 per year

Key responsibilities

Managing sheet metal press tool project delivery from 3D tool design to use in production (40%)

* You will be the key connection between the DeepForm Simulation Engineers and the toolmakers that are responsible for manufacturing the press tools.
* Prior to full scale 3D design and tool manufacturing, DeepForm Simulation Engineers execute detailed simulation and robustness analysis to ensure tools will operate successfully. Your primary role is to support toolmakers with your expertise in using and commissioning press tools and provide input into tool design, manufacturing and try-out.
* Even before tools are used for the first time, you will supervise toolmakers to make sure tools are manufactured according to DeepForm’s and the OEMs specifications.
* You will oversee and plan out trials to support the toolmaker in delivering a high quality tool and ensure that the customer requirements are met.

Project management (30%)

* You will be responsible for interacting with key stakeholders within OEMs and toolmakers.
* You will be jointly defining key project deliverables and responsible for sharing information between DeepForm, toolmakers and OEMs.
* Manage working relationships with points of contact in client’s stamping and design teams, ensure that project delivery remains on track.

Presenting work to customers, toolmakers and other team members (20%)

* Present trial and production results and progress updates to clients and colleagues, via written reports and presentations.

Identifying requirements for process innovation and contributing to solutions (10%)

* Identify any issues that cannot be resolved using current DeepForm design methodology and IP
* Contribute to the proposal, testing, and evaluation of solutions, including new patent applications
