The Opportunity
To contribute to the development of a collaborative research programme that will determine the molecular basis of Rett Syndrome. The project will involve generating cell lines carrying mutated versions of MeCP2 and its partner proteins in order to test models for its role in regulating gene expression.

Institute Context
The Institute of Cell Biology (ICB) is a world-leading centre for cell and molecular biology. Our research spans mechanisms of genetic information stability, transmission and expression, microbial physiology and pathogenesis, and uses systems including cell culture, bacteria, yeast, Drosophila and mouse. We collaborate across the School and with the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, and with partners such as SynthSys. Facilities include high-throughput DNA sequencing, protein production and purification, biophysical and kinetic analysis of proteins, in silico drug screening, proteomics, and advanced microscopy. ICB includes the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology and is funded by BBSRC, CR-UK, EC, Gates Foundation, Mayo Foundation, MRC, Royal Society, and the Wellcome Trust.
