Summer School Student Welfare Lead (Ref: 4027/17)

£700 per week + half board accommodation.

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Student Welfare Lead to oversee the pastoral care and wellbeing of students attending residential summer programs in Cambridge during Summer 2026. Many students will be away from home for the first time, and you will ensure they receive appropriate care, support and guidance throughout their stay.

The role involves leading the welfare team, liaising closely with the Program Director and senior staff, and maintaining open communication with parents, medical professionals and other external parties. This is a fully residential role, requiring overnight presence in Cambridge for the duration of the assigned programme(s).

Program Dates – Summer 2026

* 3 July – 18 July 2026
* 17 July – 1 August 2026
* 24 July – 8 August 2026
* 31 July – 15 August 2026

Compulsory induction training will take place in Cambridge on the Friday and Saturday of your first programme. Alternative arrangements may be possible for candidates with graduation commitments.

Purpose of the Role

To maintain oversight of all student welfare needs, ensuring appropriate care is provided, safeguarding policies are followed and staff are supported in delivering pastoral care.

Key Responsibilities

* Oversee student wellbeing, medical data and any pre‑existing conditions, liaising with parents or guardians as required.
* Monitor and manage incidents, illnesses or injuries, ensuring procedures are followed and concerns are reported to Program Directors.
* Lead and manage the welfare team to ensure effective, calm and systematic support.
* Ensure staff compliance with safeguarding and welfare policies, providing guidance where needed.
* Maintain communication with parents, doctors, nurses and other external parties.
* Promote and uphold organisational values, protocols and procedures.
* Undertake additional duties as requested by the Program Director or senior leadership.

Note: Pre‑summer work may be available for medical tasks and communications, depending on requirements and candidate availability.

* Previous experience working with young people (essential).
* Previous experience in a pastoral, mentoring or welfare role (essential).
* Residential experience (highly desirable).
* Knowledge of Cambridge, its colleges and history (desirable).
