Our client is a family run business, with an amazing product and customer centric approach. They have 160 stores in the UK and a rapidly growing online, International and concessions business. They really care about people, customers, and the communities in which they trade and are now looking for a Management Accountant to be based out of their amazing Amersham head office. The role will be hybrid post induction, with a split of three days office, two days working from home.
As a Management Accountant Reporting to the Financial Controller, you take ownership of a key area of group finance, ensuring accurate, timely, and insightful financial information is delivered to support strategic decision-making across the business. Alongside your core accounting responsibilities, you place a strong emphasis on team leadership and outsourced team management. You use your communication, coordination, and people management skills to keep the team aligned, engaged, and working effectively together. You'll You take responsibility for managing and developing both internal and outsourced finance teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Your attention to detail and proactive approach ensure the Group consistently meets all compliance, reporting, and performance requirements in a fast-paced and ambitious retail environment.
Management Accountant – Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of management accountants, setting clear objectives, conducting regular performance reviews, and supporting professional growth.
- Manage the outsourced management accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services in line with agreed SLAs.
- Effectively allocate tasks within the team, ensuring high-quality output.
- Act as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders and the outsourced team, proactively resolving issues and driving continuous improvement.
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.
- Conduct detailed analysis of financial performance, including variance and trend analysis, to support strategic decision-making.
- Oversee weekly and monthly margin reconciliations, ensuring accuracy of reported margins and weighted average cost (WAC).
- Produce comprehensive and insightful Board reporting packs tailored to business needs.
- Take full ownership of the balance sheet for the main trading entity, ensuring all reconciliations are current, accurate, and well-documented.
- Provide financial support and guidance to Finance Business Partners and budget holders, enabling informed decision-making.
- Contribute to the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Management Accountant – Required Skills
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in managing, mentoring, and developing finance teams.
- Strong knowledge of management accounts, investigating variances, and providing actionable insights.
- Ability to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements in financial processes.
- Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise tasks, handle pressure within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with non-finance stakeholders and ability to communicate financial information clearly to senior leadership.
- Two to three years' experience within management accounts.
- Previous team management experience or dotted line exposure from practice role.
- Experience in managing an outsourced team would be beneficial.
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
