Colorectal Surgeon with a specialist interest in IBD

The Colorectal Service is seeking to appoint a replacement Consultant Surgeon with a subspecialty interest to complement the department (early rectal cancer; advanced pelvic malignancy; colorectal cancer; inflammatory bowel disease).

Main duties of the job

You will join a general surgical department which includes Colorectal, Upper-GI, Breast and Vascular Services. The Colorectal Surgical Team has nine Consultants (eight whole-time equivalents). There is a tradition of close working between the departments of gastroenterology and colorectal surgery. The successful applicant will provide colorectal and general surgical services in theatre, outpatient and ward settings.

Minimally invasive surgery is well established within the colorectal team including transanal microsurgery (TEM) and robotic-assisted colorectal surgery.

There are separate specialty rotas for seven-day services, and the successful candidate will contribute to both the general surgery emergency rota (1 in 12) and the colorectal weekend and Bank Holiday rotas.

The Trust conducts out-patient and elective surgical activity at New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital. As part of the team, you will be expected to participate in delivering services on both sites.
