About the role:
Under the direction of the Director of Design and Head of Digital you will work across the organisation to create the vision for Wesleyan’s future customer experience. The role will provide leadership and direction to the Design team, ensuring the capability is at the required standard and volume to support our aspirations to put our customers at the heart of everything we do.
Your team will coordinate the customer journey design work for the Society, including to support setting the design strategy and ensure seamless integration of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design principles, ensuring the right KPIs are in place to monitor existing journeys, and leading the design of new experiences through the application of design thinking.
Working with colleagues across the wider organisation, this role will help transform Wesleyan into a truly customer centric company.
Main Responsibilities:
•Be accountable for your team’s design and research output, delivering an effortless and valuable user experience.
• Ensure your team effectively identifies and understand user needs and opportunities, based on solid evidence.
• Lead by example, demonstrating Wesleyan values and leadership behaviours.
• Provide support and mentorship to your team members, helping them define objectives and ensure professional and personal development.
• Recruit and onboard new team members and design your team structure to be as effective as possible.
• Ensure dedicated focus on human-centred design that always meet our user needs, serving customers in your domain a little better every day.
• Support strategy for key projects through design direction, bringing the product vision to life and guiding other teams to do the same.
• Collaborate consistently with the Creative Lead and Brand team to ensure complete consistency of output and creative direction across the whole org.
• Ensure your team are solving the right problems in the best way for our users and business, while seeking to prevent or minimise development risks.
• Support the development of business-level objectives and key results.
• Be an advocate for our design system, ensuring your team uses it correctly and contributes to its growth.
• Evangelise for design methodologies and your team's achievements across Wesleyan and the broader design community.
• Present the work of your team to all levels of seniority and subject areas in the organisation.
• Create an environment that encourages multi-disciplinary teamwork and drives outcomes in-line with our design principles.
• Critique and contribute to product and strategic roadmaps and communicate the potential of new initiatives and opportunities.
• Coordinate, facilitate and lead ceremonies, peer reviews and workshops with all design and research teams, product owners and business stakeholders.
• Continuously seek to improve research, design, and development processes to gain efficiency, remove obstacles, and simplify workflows.
• Work with design leadership to ensure we have the appropriate abilities and headcount correctly allocated within budget constraints.
Application Requirements:
• Extensive experience in a design team.
• Strong experience of building and leading teams of at least eight designers, with direct line and performance management responsibilities.
• A deep understanding of the practice and process of design discovery, research and synthesis, workshop planning and facilitation, sprint planning, visual design and ideation, prototyping, user testing and implementation.
• A genuine appetite for solving complex problems and a passion and energy for design and visual communication of your ideas.
• Solid understanding of web technologies and software development life cycle would be a great advantage.
• Experienced in agile scrum workflow.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the gravitas to influence and inspire all levels of seniority and disciplines.
• A Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, Interaction Design, Computer Interaction, Behavioural Psychology, or equivalent related industry experience.
