Excellent IT and analytical skills with a sound understanding of accounting principles are also essential, as is the ability to organise and prioritise often conflicting workloads to achieve results accurately and on time.

As a finance professional you will have a critical role in shaping and leading our service, ensuring systems are fit for purpose, remain relevant in an ever-changing environment, and deliver our fundamental purpose of securing excellent financial stewardship and probity.
Principal Accountant - Climate Change, Environment and Transport, Communities and Public Health, Performance and Partnerships
The postholder will provide strategic financial support and oversight to Finance and Service staff across three Directorates; Climate Change, Environment & Transport, Public Health & Communities and Performance & Partnerships. Focussing principally on Highways and Traffic Management, the postholder will provide budget holders with a comprehensive range of financial support, including budget setting, ongoing budget management and ad-hoc advice. The role will involve working closely with Heads of Service, and their management teams, on a range of financial matters and supporting the Head Accountant in the leadership and management of the Finance team.
