About the Opportunity:
Head Registrar
David Zwirner seeks a Head Registrar for a 12 month maternity cover for its London gallery. Qualified candidates should be highly personable, proactive, motivated, and have strong communication skills. Previous experience at a gallery, museum, or comparable arts organization is required.
SUPERVISES: Registration Team
What you’ll do:
* Oversee team of registrars - ensure appropriate division of workload, assist as needed, and guide to establish best practices and protocols.
* Collaborate with Head Registrar in Paris and Registrar teams globally to ensure processes and protocols are aligned and successful communication is prioritised.
* Maintain and oversee gallery inventory, including both internal and external storage, inventory database, and coordination of incoming and outgoing shipments.
* Create and enact inventory control processes and protocols.
* Point of contact for all sales questions and support with troubleshooting issues related to shipping, conservation, and inventory management.
* Coordinate logistics and schedules for installations, both exhibitions and private viewing rooms, in close coordination with Technical Director and Sales.
* Coordinate loans and consignments, both internal and external, for select artists.
* Manage sold client shipping for select artworks.
* Responsible for understanding the gallery’s insurance policy, ensuring compliance, and providing total insurable value per location upon policy review.
* Expert knowledge of packing, crating, and handling artwork based on best practices.
* Coordinate conservation, as necessary.
* Manage consolidated shipments (both international and to/from Paris gallery) in keeping with departmental budget, in coordination with US and Paris registration teams.
* Serve as courier for select loans, as needed
* Manage import, export, and VAT considerations in close coordination with Director of Finance (DZL/DZP)
* Responsible for gallery customs account
* Create and maintain customs control processes and protocols
* Manage departmental invoices and ensure timely submissions
What we would like you to have:
* Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar position in the field of contemporary art.
* Focused, reliable, and exacting attention to detail.
* Must be able to work with team members at all levels.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross departmentally.
* Familiarity with various mediums of artwork.
* Must be extremely detail-oriented and able to work on multiple projects at once.
