Job overview: As an IT Programme Manager at BMI, you will provide strategic leadership over a portfolio of high-impact initiatives, orchestrating the delivery of enterprise applications that drive organisational transformation. Reporting to the Head of CIO Operations with a direct line to the Director of Products and Applications, you will navigate complex interdependencies and align cross-functional workstreams within BMI ITs Products and Applications Portfolio. You will serve as a senior catalyst for change, managing executive stakeholders and Global Process Owners to ensure collective programme outputs deliver maximum ROI. By governing large-scale budgets and Tier-1 vendor relationships, you ensure that technology solutions are not just implemented, but fully integrated and sustainable for BMI’s long-term growth. Additionally, you will manage relationships with delivery partners and vendors at programme level, ensuring that they adhere to BMI standards and are fully documented for long-term sustainability. Key Accountabilities: Programme Management: Strategic Roadmap & Portfolio Governance: Orchestrate a complex portfolio of SAP (e.g., S/4HANA transformations, GRC) and Non-SAP workstreams, ensuring technical interdependencies are managed and collective outcomes align with BMI’s long-term business readiness and strategic objectives. Financial & Operational Stewardship: Direct programme-level budgets, timelines, and scope, implementing rigorous governance to ensure that multi-million pound investments translate into measurable business value and adhere to enterprise standards. Ecosystem & Vendor Leadership: Lead high-level collaboration between internal global teams and Tier-1 delivery partners, ensuring third-party contributions are integrated seamlessly into the broader programme architecture and meet stringent BMI specifications. Proactive Risk & Dependency Management: Synthesize risk landscapes across multiple projects to identify systemic threats, implementing macro-level mitigation strategies and contingency planning to protect the programme’s critical path. Integrity & Knowledge Management: Establish a "single source of truth" for programme health through executive-level reporting and comprehensive documentation, ensuring full transparency for auditors and long-term sustainability for the business. Stakeholder Coordination: Engage with Market Leads, Global Process Owners (GPOs), and other key stakeholders to align project goals with business objectives. Communicate project status, risks, and progress effectively to all relevant stakeholders. Facilitate alignment between business needs and project execution to ensure successful outcomes. User Acceptance Testing (UAT): UAT Governance & Strategic Alignment: Define and lead the overarching UAT strategy for the entire programme, ensuring that testing frameworks across SAP and Non-SAP workstreams validate end-to-end business processes and meet enterprise-wide success criteria. Business Readiness & Quality Assurance: Orchestrate global UAT efforts by aligning departmental resources and Global Process Owners, ensuring that defect resolution strategies prioritize business-critical functionality and long-term operational stability. Integrated Testing Orchestration: Synchronize complex testing schedules across multiple projects to manage environment dependencies, tracking cross-programme defect trends to ensure a holistic "Go/No-Go" decision-making process. Executive Sign-off & Value Validation: Command the final business validation process, securing formal sign-off from executive stakeholders by demonstrating that the integrated solution satisfies both functional requirements and strategic business outcomes. Business Readiness for Go-Live: Business Transformation & Readiness Strategy: Lead the overarching readiness framework by partnering with Change Managers to synchronise downtime windows, production sanity checks, and global stabilisation efforts across all programme workstreams, ensuring minimal disruption to business continuity. Strategic Change Leadership & Adoption: Direct the development of enterprise-wide change and training architectures; you will oversee Change Managers to ensure that communication and adoption strategies are harmonised across the portfolio to drive high user proficiency and ROI. Service Transition & Operational Sustainability: Collaborate with Service Transition leads to govern the seamless handover of programme outputs into "Business as Usual" (BAU); you will ensure that support models, documentation, and service-level agreements (SLAs) are robust and project-level closures meet formal transition-to-support standards. Project Delivery: Methodology Governance & PMO Synergy: Partner with the PMO to define, institutionalize, and govern robust delivery frameworks; you will empower Project Managers to execute with consistency while ensuring all methodologies align with BMI’s overarching strategic standards. Strategic Milestone & Dependency Orchestration: Provide high-level oversight of the programme’s critical path by synthesizing project-level milestones; you will proactively manage cross-project dependencies and resource conflicts to insulate the programme from systemic delays. Execution Leadership & Knowledge Capital: Drive the holistic success of the programme through to formal closure, lead Project Managers in conducting rigorous post-programme evaluations, and partner with the PMO to convert "lessons learned" into institutionalized best practices. Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with SAP project implementations. Develop contingency plans and escalate critical issues to ensure proactive resolution. Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry best practices, SAP trends, and emerging technologies to enhance project management capabilities. Continuously evaluate and refine project methodologies and execution strategies. Stakeholder Engagement: Gather feedback from stakeholders to refine project execution and improve user experience. Build and maintain strong relationships with SAP vendors, consultants, and external partners to enhance project collaboration. Budget Management: Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Track and analyze budget performance, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions. Optimize costs related to project execution, licensing, maintenance, and support. Ensure compliance with budget guidelines and financial policies throughout the project lifecycle. Key stakeholders: Global Process Owners Portfolio Lead IT Service Managers Market Leads Qualifications & Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus. Extensive experience as an SAP Project Manager, leading full-cycle SAP implementations, including S/4HANA migrations. Proven expertise in SAP project management methodologies, governance, and best practices. Strong knowledge of SAP technologies, architecture, and integration methodologies, ensuring seamless connectivity across enterprise systems. Strong leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional teams, third-party vendors, and business stakeholders. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and senior leadership. Excellent risk management capabilities, including identifying potential project risks, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring timely execution. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on driving efficiency and optimizing business processes through SAP solutions.
