Overview

First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our reputable client who is seeking a Water / Legionella Risk Assessor to join their team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and reporting risks associated with water systems that could contribute to the growth and transmission of Legionella bacteria. This role ensures compliance with UK health and safety legislation and technical guidance, supporting the safe management of water systems across a varied property portfolio.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct Legionella risk assessments on domestic hot and cold water systems and communal water systemsInspect system components including storage tanks, calorifiers, TMVs, showers, pipework, expansion vessels, and dead legsCarry out temperature monitoring, water sampling, and system inspections as requiredIdentify hazards and evaluate risks relating to system design, condition, and operationProduce system schematics and asset registers where necessaryProvide clear recommendations for remedial actions and ongoing control measuresPrepare detailed risk assessment reports including photographs, system descriptions, and risk ratingsEnsure reports are submitted within agreed timeframesMaintain strong working relationships with clients, site staff, and stakeholdersSupport the development and improvement of water safety proceduresTravel regularly to client sites and complete multiple assessments where requiredWork in compliance with all relevant UK legislation and guidance (including ACOP L8, HSG274, COSHH, and BS 8580-1)Adhere to all health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE and reporting of hazards or incidentsSkills and Qualifications:
Essential:
City & Guilds Legionella Risk Assessment qualification (or equivalent)Strong knowledge of ACOP L8 and HSG274 technical guidanceUnderstanding of BS 8580-1 standardsMinimum 3 years’ experience in water hygiene or water treatment environmentsExperience conducting Legionella risk assessments across residential and/or commercial propertiesFull UK driving licenceExcellent communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamUp-to-date technical knowledge relevant to the roleDesirable:
Legionella Control Association (LCA) recognised training or experienceExperience working within local authority or social housing contractsExperience using digital risk assessment or asset management softwareIOSH or equivalent health and safety trainingAdditional H&S certifications (e.g. working at height, manual handling, confined space, first aid)Asbestos awareness training
