Overview

What skills and experience we're looking for


Responsibilities: Planning, Teaching and Class Management

* Identify clear teaching objectives and specify how they will be taught and assessed
* Set tasks which challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest
* Set appropriate and demanding expectations
* Set clear targets, building on prior attainment
* Identify SEN or very able pupils
* Provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation, and challenge
* Make effective use of assessment and ensure coverage of programmes of study
* Ensure effective teaching and best use of available time
* Monitor and intervene to ensure sound learning and discipline
* Use a variety of teaching methods to:
o Match approach to content, structure information, present a set of key ideas and use appropriate vocabulary
o Use effective questioning, listen carefully to pupils, address errors and misconceptions
o Select appropriate learning resources and develop study skills through library, ICT, and other sources
* Ensure pupils acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subject taught
* Evaluate their own teaching critically to improve effectiveness
* Account for pupils’ needs by providing structured learning opportunities aligned with national and local policies, including foundations for literacy and numeracy
* Encourage pupils to think and talk about their learning, develop self-control and independence, concentrate, persevere, and listen attentively
* Use a variety of teaching strategies involving planned adult intervention, first-hand experience, and play and talk as vehicles for learning
* Manage parents and other adults in the classroom


Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting

* Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use findings to improve specific aspects of teaching
* Mark and monitor pupils’ work and set targets for progress
* Assess and record pupils’ progress systematically and keep records to check work is understood and completed, monitor strengths and weaknesses, inform planning and recognise achievement levels
* Prepare and present informative reports to parents

* Have a working knowledge of teachers’ professional duties and legal liabilities
* Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school/academy
* Establish effective working relationships and set a good example through presentation and personal and professional conduct
* Endeavour to give every child the opportunity to reach their potential and meet high expectations
* Contribute to the corporate life of the school/academy through effective participation in meetings and management systems
* Take responsibility for own professional development and duties in relation to school/academy policies and practices
* Liaise effectively with parents and Academy Advisory Body (AAB) members


General

* Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, inclusion, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting concerns promptly
* Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
* Carry out role in a way that demands high standards while supporting inclusion and welcoming diverse thinking
* Maintain strict confidentiality in all areas of work
* Process personal and sensitive information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR
* Ensure work protects the safety and security of information (e.g., strong passwords, reporting breaches, securing paper records, disposing of records securely)
* Understand and comply with statutory safeguarding guidance, ensuring the safeguarding and promotion of children’s welfare and reporting concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Officer immediately
* Comply with the Trust’s policies and procedures
* Undertake other reasonable duties (with competence and experience) as requested, in line with changing needs of the organisation


Knowledge, Skills & Experience


Essential

* Graduate with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Knowledge of current educational practice and issues in primary
* Excellent classroom practitioner
* Knowledge of national strategies (Literacy, Numeracy, ICT)
* Statutory curriculum requirements and assessment, recording and reporting of attainment and progress
* Effective use of ICT to support learning
* Knowledge of the new Professional Teaching Standards
* Ability to teach in the Primary phase
* High level of written, oral and communication skills
* Ability to communicate effectively to a range of audiences
* High level of organisational and planning skills
* Evidence of contributing to the corporate life of the academy
* Work effectively as part of a team, relating well to colleagues, pupils, and parents
* Commitment to equality of opportunity for all pupils
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Establish clear expectations and constructive working relationships in the classroom through teamwork
* Devolving responsibilities and delegating tasks where appropriate
* Commitment to involvement in extra-curricular activities
