Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a fast-paced, consumer-facing business operating in the retail/FMCG space. This is a high-impact role supporting a dynamic commercial organisation, working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice.
Retail or FMCG experience is strongly preferred, with a proven ability to operate at pace and manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a trusted legal advisor to senior leadership and key business stakeholders
* Provide day-to-day legal support across a broad range of commercial matters, including:
* Commercial contracts (supplier, customer, distribution, logistics, marketing, SaaS)
* Consumer law, advertising, promotions, and product claims
* Regulatory compliance relevant to retail/FMCG operations
* Lead contract negotiations and draft, review, and advise on complex commercial agreements
* Partner closely with commercial, procurement, marketing, and operations teams to enable business objectives while managing legal risk
* Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks in a practical, business-focused way
* Support governance, policies, and internal legal processes to improve efficiency and consistency
* Manage external counsel where required, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality advice
Skills required:
* Qualified lawyer with 7-10years’ PQE (or equivalent experience)
* Strong background in retail, FMCG, or another consumer-facing business (in-house experience preferred)
* Excellent commercial contracting and negotiation skills
* Solid understanding of consumer law and advertising/marketing regulations
* Confident communicator able to influence senior stakeholders and simplify complex legal issues
* Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with an immediate start
* Practical, solutions-focused mindset with strong attention to detail
