Mylar Specialty Films (UK) Ltd (Formerly Dupont Teijin Films (UK) Ltd) is a leading global producer of PET and PEN polyester films specialising in film products and related services for markets and industries including Battery Materials, Durable Cards, Electrical Insulation and Capacitors, Flexible Electronics, Healthcare, Imaging Media, Labels, Packaging, Photovoltaics and many more. Mylar Specialty Films is a 50/50 Joint Venture between Celanese Corporation and Teijin Limited. The business has approx. 2000 employees worldwide with manufacturing sites in Asia Pacific, America and Europe. The UK production site is based in Dumfries, Scotland, and the Global Research & Development Operation is based at Wilton on Teesside.
The Production Operator is a member of a shift operating team, responsible for the continuous running of the film or polymer production lines at the highest possible outputs and efficiencies with minimum disruption and downtime. The role on shifts is critical in helping the business achieve and maintain operational excellence in production, along with safety, hygiene, quality and efficiency goals whilst ensuring all products are produced in line with both company and customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintain efficient production essential for a quality operation minimising expensive losses, taking prompt corrective actions whenever necessary.
2. Cooperation with research and development for the advancement of new ideas/products.
3. Work within a shift team which is collectively responsible for continuous production across all assets.
4. When breakdowns occur on running equipment, operator assistance to shift tradesmen is essential, particularly outside normal day hours, to minimise equipment downtime.
5. Continuous monitoring of all internal and external areas of the plant that are critical to the film making process
6. Carry out a complete unit start-up check, taking any action necessary to correct faults.
7. Monitoring operating parameters of equipment and maintaining an accurate log of abnormalities and reporting deviations/process interruptions.
8. Visual inspection and assessment of finished reels and recording of results in the plant quality system. The operator will also undertake on line quality checks.
9. Ensure the film produced meets the quality specification and take corrective actions when required.
10. Fault diagnosis using root-cause thinking, carrying out checks/inspections and presenting at performance reviews.
11. Conversion of reject film into flake to maximise raw material efficiencies.
12. Rectify process interruptions speedily and effectively to maximise line uptime.
13. Identify faulty equipment operation and initiate repair through appropriate tradesman of by raising engineering job orders.
14. Undertake all work safely and in compliance with Plant rules, the Site Safety Policy and participate in safety training programmes and safety audits.
15. Maintain good housekeeping standards by keeping work areas and equipment clean and in good order.
Qualifications:
Knowledge/Experience/Skills:
16. Preferable to have experience in film manufacturing or chemical manufacturing.
17. Show evidence of any transferable skills.
18. Show a dedication towards teamwork and have a team orientated personality.
19. The jobholder must have the ability to learn to use databases, spreadsheets, shop floor systems and other computer programmes used on the film line.
20. Interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
