Job Summary
East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust (Cambridge) is looking for a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) to work within the 0‑19 Healthy Child Programme in the Cambridgeshire North Locality. The role is based in Wisbech, Doddington or Huntingdon, depending on the applicant’s home location.
Key Responsibilities
* Promote good health and prevent ill health in young people, families and communities.
* Raise awareness of and identify unmet health needs, initiating, developing, implementing and evaluating plans of care.
* Work within a multidisciplinary team to assess need, delegate and supervise work within the area.
* Manage the 5‑19 duty desk, receive all incoming communication and referrals, liaise with key stakeholders, parents/carers and young people.
* Assist schools in establishing procedures for medicine management.
* Provide and promote appointment clinics, parent/carer support groups, home visits and health needs assessments.
* Provide contact with young people via the Chat Health text messaging service.
* Refer health needs assessments to other professionals and services (GPs, consultants, mental health, social care, etc.).
* Support children and families with emotional and behavioural development.
* Advise client groups on health promotion and prevention of illness.
* Link practice with local and national targets and deliver public health programmes.
* Plan, order resources, compile teaching plans and evaluate health promotion programmes.
* Act as a health link for partner agencies and work closely with them to promote wellbeing.
* Work with the Locality Lead to support vulnerable or at‑risk children and families; adhere to safeguarding procedures.
* Participate in statutory safeguarding processes, including witness statements and court attendance.
* Identify children with special educational needs and disability, facilitate referrals and act as a key worker when indicated.
* Triage the single point of access and Chat Health as required.
* Provide cover for colleagues as requested.
* Demonstrate reflective, evidence‑based practice and influence strategy and policy development.
* Hold a special interest role and support other staff within the locality and service.
* Contribute to local policy and procedure development.
* Take responsibility for clinical practice, including supervision, and adhere to the NMC code of conduct.
* Maintain a live mentor status and contribute to a learning environment for novice and returning staff.
Qualifications & Training
* Specialist practitioner degree or diploma post‑registration (SCPHN) or equivalent.
* Registered Nurse with the UK NMC (RGN, RMN, RSCN, RN‑LD).
* Mentor 998 or equivalent teaching qualification.
* Recognised leadership course (desirable).
* Evidence of completion of a migratory portfolio to demonstrate dual qualification or willingness to pursue it (desirable).

* Experience in a multi‑disciplinary setting.
* Experience with safeguarding children and families.
* Experience mentoring or supporting colleagues (desirable).
* Leadership and management of staff (desirable).
Knowledge & Skills
* High level of clinical skills with the ability to identify, respond to and evaluate health needs.
* Commitment to developing excellent services focused on improved outcomes for children.
* Current knowledge of local and national policies informing public health practice.
* Evidence of partnership working in the community.
* Good keyboard skills and understanding of clinical systems.
* Evidence of contribution to service redesign/development (desirable).
* Audit and data analysis skills (desirable).

Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 per annum (pro‑rata) – Band 6, Agenda for Change.
Contract: Permanent, full‑time, part‑time or flexible working options available.
