The Swan Song Project

Offer description

The Swan Song Project is a unique charity that specialises in Celebrating Lives, Making Memories and Leaving Legacies. Our core work is supporting terminally ill and bereaved people to write and record an original song. We also host other music and grief based activities and produce a podcast on songwriting and bereavement.

The charity was founded in 2017 and has steadily been growing since then. Before the pandemic we were working primarily with patients at hospices across Leeds and Bradford. We made the service available virtually in 2020 enabling us to work with people across the country. In 2022 we recruited and trained 7 new songwriters and we are now writing more songs than ever before.

It is an exciting time for the organisation as we aim to continue expanding the reach of our unique service and enable as many people as possible to leave their legacy in song.

We are excited to welcome some new trustees to our board to help us on this next step.

The role of a trustee is effectively to oversee the charity and ensure it stays on track. The Trustees meet about every 2 months (usually in an evening) and can have more involvement with the staff team in between when needed/possible. The key to a good trustee board is a wide and diverse range of skills and experiences all united by a belief and passion for the charities work.

We would welcome applications from people who have been trustees before and people with no previous experience (training can be provided), the most important thing is a passion for the work and a small but consistent time commitment (2-4hrs per month). If you believe in the work we do and want to help us take it to the next level we would love to hear from you

We are currently keen to bring more diversity to our board. Our service is available to people from all walks of life and we want our leadership to reflect that and enable us to best serve different communities. Loss and bereavement affects all of us, regardless of race, gender, age, sexuality etc, and we want our service to be as accessible as possible to anyone who may benefit from it.

We would particularly welcome applications from people from ethnic minority backgrounds. No previous trustee experience is required (training can be provided).

We are keen to hear from people with a wide range of skill sets and your passion for our work is more important than any skill set.

However some skill sets we would particularly benefit from are:

Senior Hospice work

Marketing

We also welcome applications from people who have benefitted from the services of the charity in some way.

If interested please email a CV and cover letter to ben@swansongproject.co.uk.
