Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Applications specialist to join our digital team that has set out an ambitious digital strategy over the next five years to deliver the very best information and digital solutions with patient care at its core.

The post holder will manage the planning, development, implementation and ongoing management of Application systems and servers in line with the strategic roadmap to ensure that the benefits of digital technologies are realised.

The Senior ICT Application Systems Product Specialist will be expected to provide an expert and effective ICT support service, predominantly in development, implementation and ongoing maintenance across a range of ICT applications and systems across Wales, including the provision of ICT support and advice to managers and users.

Working autonomously and in accordance with Trust policy, the postholder will also be expected to investigate/resolve and plan multi-faceted ICT systems, to ensure the smooth running of the trust’s ICT infrastructure. Ensuring that the integrity and performance of the infrastructure is optimised in support of clinical and business needs.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.


Main duties of the job

As a senior member of the team, this role entails assisting with the development and implementation of a maintenance schedule, ensuring there is efficient and effective use of all Application systems, servers, associated hardware and software applications distributed across the Trust.

The postholder will work to introduce continual improvements and refinements to the practices used to develop the ICT systems within the organisation.

Routinely investigate and resolve complex technical problems, providing effective solutions that make use of suitable ICT systems.

Regular requirement to develop or create reports, documents, diagrams for use by ICT or for wider presentation.

Assist with the investigation of all adverse events, ensure the independent review of incidents, to support the investigation, identifying the root cause and ensure that appropriate Corrective and Preventative Actions are developed, actioned, and monitored.

Qualifications and Knowledge

* Educated to degree level (Information Technology, Science or related subject) or equivalent demonstrable level of work experience and knowledge.
* Advanced knowledge of working and developing application systems.
* In depth understanding of the business processes for products for which the post holder is responsible.
* Understanding of the use of modern Information Technologies and how they contribute to improved systems and services to patients.
* An understanding of ITIL framework (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) and its application across the service lifecycle.
* In depth understanding of the information and service delivery needs of NHS Wales.
* Qualification in team leadership or management (such as the Institute of Leadership and Management’s ILM Levels).


Experience

* Proven experience of an ICT technical engineering role.
* Experience of management and leadership of a team.
* Evidence of leading the design, development and deployment of computer system upgrades and implementations.
* Evidence a strong understanding of windows PC and server operating systems.
* Experience of supporting and managing Application System environments.
* Experience of supporting IT within a healthcare environment.


Skills

* Ability and confidence to speak publicly to groups of people, demonstrating ideas, concepts and working software and answer related questions.
* Able to establish good working relationships with people at all levels.
* Be methodical and disciplined in work with meticulous attention to detail.
* Able to work under own initiative and meet tight deadline.
* The post holder must be able to accurately choreograph multiple application systems and platforms across numerous displays.
* Able to learn new technologies and IT systems quickly through both self-study and professional courses.
