Volunteer Chairperson and Trustee for the Charity Sage Counselling | SAGE Counselling
The Chairperson and Trustee of Sage Counselling leads the board of trustees and the management committee, providing leadership and direction to governance, strategic and operational responsibilities. This role involves leading meetings, facilitating decision-making, and collaborating with executive teams to achieve the organisation's objectives. The chair acts as a spokesperson and ensures the organisation operates ethically and legally. Our client group are people with mobility issues who are unable to access other counselling services without aid due to mobility restrictions. Mobility issues can arise from disabilities, medical conditions, psychological and emotional issues including loss and grief, loss of independence, relationship issues and unresolved conflicts, death and dying, adjusting to change, loneliness, depression and anxiety.
Responsibilities
* Lead our team of dedicated Trustees—the driving force behind our charity’s mission and direction, providing strategic vision and operational oversight.
* Shape the future with Trustees, align with our values, ensure legal and ethical compliance, and monitor metrics such as referrals, finances, payment structures, and waiting lists.
* Champion our values by ensuring no one is excluded due to mobility or financial challenges; challenge ideas, spark discussion, and inspire decisions.
* Lead meetings, manage agendas, and ensure action items are followed through; keep meetings focused, inclusive, and productive.
* Collaborate with the Counselling Coordinator and executive team on clinical and governance matters; be prepared to engage on complaints or legal matters when needed.
* Support the outgoing chair, fellow trustees, and the management team with a clear set of operational procedures as a roadmap for onboarding and ongoing leadership.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Experience in a leadership role as a Chairperson and Trustee.
* Ability to provide strategic vision, governance oversight, and ethical leadership; commitment to accessible, affordable, and life-changing counselling services.
Commitment & Schedule
Your commitment includes:
* Quarterly Trustee & Management Meetings 09:00–10:00
* Quarterly Management meetings 10:15–12:00
* Quarterly Evening Meetings 18:30 on Wednesdays (or other weekday)
