Key Account Executive
Location: Swindon area (Field based)
Hours: Full time (Monday – Friday)
Salary: £33,000 + Annual Sales Bonus
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly technical and commercially minded Key Account Executive to join the waste disposal and treatment division of a major UK-based group. This is a critical role that blends sales, compliance, and project development. Your main purpose will be to manage the ongoing needs of key accounts, maximising profit from waste disposal and treatment services while rigorously maintaining waste acceptance compliance.
This position is ideal for someone with experience in the waste industry who can not only close profitable sales but also handle the technical assessment of waste inputs and manage complex contractual and legislative documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Profit Generation:
* Strategic Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong business relationships with key customers within the disposal and treatment operation.
* Expert Upselling: Generate and secure profitable sales/upsells across a diverse range of waste services, including MRF, Compost, Wood, Plasterboard, Skip Sorting, and Landfill operations.
* Proactive Pipeline Development: Research and identify potential new customers, developing and maintaining a strong pipeline of sales prospects for conversion into gains.
* Performance Reporting: Achieve annual sales targets and prepare monthly sales reports as instructed by the Sales Manager.
* Market Analysis: Monitor and record competitors’ services and pricing structures to inform sales strategy.
Technical Sales & Compliance Management:
* Technical Vetting: Carry out technical assessments of existing and new waste inputs to ensure strict compliance against relevant legislation and Environmental permits—critical for securing long-term contracts.
* Risk & Quality Assurance: Undertake regular duty of care audits to ensure all re-processor facilities are permitted/licenced to accept our waste streams.
* Contract Management: Manage relevant software databases to ensure all contractual documentation (e.g., quotations and duty of care audit information) is correct and up to date.
* Regulatory Expertise: Become familiar with all relevant legislation, including Duty of Care, E.P.A., and Hazardous Waste Regulations, to provide expert advice to clients.
Strategy & Support:
* Liaise with the Sales Manager regarding opportunities to develop new products, services, and markets.
* Assist other field sales personnel and help with tenders when required.
* Maintain awareness of all forthcoming projects and/or contracts requiring waste disposal services in our area.
Candidate Profile
Essential
* Experience in sales and/or contract management is essential.
* Knowledge of the waste industry is mandatory, including waste disposal and treatment operations.
* Proven ability to carry out technical assessments/classification of waste streams to ensure compliance.
* Computer literate, including proficiency in MS Office, with the ability to produce reports and audits.
* Strong team player who is polite, courteous, and professional in all dealings.
* Full UK driving licence is required for this field-based role.
Desirable
* Experience managing people.
* Familiarity with waste-related legislation (Duty of Care, E.P.A., Hazardous Waste Regulations).
