Permanent, Full‑time (37.5 hours, Monday to Friday)

Hybrid working - minimum 2 days per week in our Derby office, the rest working from home

About The Role

We’re looking for a newly qualified solicitor (or up to one year PQE – PQE is given as a guide only and applications from more senior candidates will be considered) to join our in‑house Legal team within a listed consumer financial services business. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants hands‑on exposure to a broad range of legal matters in a regulated environment and who enjoys working closely with the business.

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll be part of a supportive team where everyone pitches in. You’ll take a practical, solutions‑focused approach, supporting stakeholders across the organisation and taking real ownership of your work. No task is too small, and flexibility and curiosity are key.

The role has a strong corporate and commercial focus (around 50%), alongside involvement in governance, regulatory matters, employment, property, procurement and litigation. We offer a flexible hybrid working environment with genuine responsibility and the opportunity to grow your skillset across a wide range of legal disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate & Commercial (c. 50%)

* Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including supplier, service and partnership contracts
* Supporting corporate transactions and strategic projects across the business

Governance & Regulatory

* Assisting with corporate governance processes, including board and committee documentation as required
* Supporting compliance with regulatory obligations relevant to a listed consumer financial services business

Additional Legal Support

* Assisting on employment matters in collaboration with HR and external advisers
* Supporting property matters, including lease documentation where needed
* Advising on procurement processes and reviewing supplier documentation
* Assisting with dispute and litigation management, including coordination with external counsel
* Undertaking legal research and preparing internal guidance and training materials

About You

* Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or qualification pending) with up to one year PQE (PQE is given as a guide only and applications from more senior candidates will be considered).
* Candidates must have completed a traditional training contract with a recognised UK law firm, preferably within the Top 200 law firms.
* A strong academic background is required, including a minimum 2:1 degree, preferably from a Russell Group or other leading university.

Skills & Attributes

* Excellent drafting and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
* Ability to communicate legal advice clearly, pragmatically and confidently to non‑legal stakeholders
* Well organised, with the ability to manage multiple matters and competing priorities
* Resilient and confident, with the credibility to challenge stakeholders and stand firm on legal risk when needed
* Strong commercial awareness and sound judgement
* Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership of tasks from start to finish
* Proactive, flexible and collaborative – well suited to a small, fast‑moving in‑house legal team

What’s In It For You?

Private Medical Insurance (Vitality), 25 days annual leave (increasing to 28 with service) plus your birthday off, matched pension contribution (L&G), share save scheme (Equinity), retail discounts, free entertainment tickets, plus much more!

Flexible working hours with hybrid working for Head Office roles (as agreed with your line manager).

A wide range of Learning & Development offers, from 121 coaching to qualification support, helping you to grow and thrive in your career.

A supportive, inclusive culture with forums you're welcome to join from day 1, using your voice to make MAB an even better place to work.
