The Nuclear Medicine Service is a specialised diagnostic and treatment facility based on four sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEHB), Heartlands Hospital (HH), Good Hope Hospital (GH) and Birmingham Children's Hospital (BCH)). The case mix is highly specialised, and this is reflected in the range of investigations and treatments that are provided. The post-holder will be the Nuclear Medicine Training Lead and be part of a multidisciplinary team that provides routine and complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and services directly to patients.
Main duties of the job
The training lead is a pivotal role for ensuring the service has the required skill mix for all duties. They will be actively involved in performing a wide range of diagnostic procedures on patients of all ages and suffering a range of illness, including cancer, the dispensing and administration of sterile radioactive materials, acquisition of imaging data, analysing and calculating results and the disposal and management of radioactive waste. Mainly based at the QEHB site, the post holder will have duties at HH, GH and BCH providing teaching, advice, assessment, supervision and mentorship to staff and trainees across all sites under direction of the Management Team. As a senior member of staff, they are required to work unsupervised at all times. They are part of the team responsible for the organisation of the daily and future clinical workload of the department, adapting the work plan in response to changes in levels of demand and capacity. They will be involved in the recruitment and selection of technical staff, deputising for members of the Management Team in their absence, authorising investigations and allocating appointments for complex procedures. On a daily basis they will be liaising with other technologists, clinical scientists, the management team, junior and senior medical staff, nursing and clerical staff. They will ensure the roster is inline with training needs for the service and inform management of any challenges with training.
