Job Description
Job Purpose: To provide a cleaning service within a building or building complex to agreed standards.
Responsibilities
* Plan, organise and control the work of cleaning staff to ensure EA standards are met and personally undertake cleaning duties.
* Carry out induction and skills training including refresher training in line with EA practice.
* Liaise with the building manager or other authorised person on day‑to‑day issues related to cleaning.
* Investigate complaints about the cleaning provision, take corrective action and advise the designated line manager as necessary.
* Ensure adequate supplies of materials and light equipment are requisitioned and maintained, and that equipment is kept in good condition.
* Monitor suitability and performance of materials and light equipment and advise the designated line manager where inappropriate.
* Recommend and implement changes in work procedures in consultation with the designated line manager to improve economy, standards or ease of operation.
* Ensure that the cleaning standards within the premises meet EA standards.
* Allocate keys to cleaning staff and ensure return each day.
* Plan periodic work in consultation with service users and report plans to the Area Co‑ordinator before school closures.
* Maintain records of staff attendance, holidays and absences, completing, authorising and returning them to EA in a timely manner.
* Maintain records of consumable stocks and inventory of equipment.
Essential Criteria
* Demonstrable two years’ experience of cleaning outside the home environment.
* Ability to use own initiative and work under pressure to meet specific deadlines.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate in English.
* Effective organisation and planning skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Flexible approach to work, capable of giving instruction.
* Knowledge of the requirements of a Cleaning Supervisor.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work NI Order 1978.
* Knowledge of cleaning methods and machinery.
* Evidence that experience and approach reflect EA’s values and commitment to equality of opportunity.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience supervising staff.
* Alignment with EA values, commitment to equality and excellence in service delivery.
Additional Information
The post requires the applicant to undergo an enhanced criminal background check. The applicant will bear the cost of £33 at the pre‑employment stage.
