We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our automation and robotics team. The ideal candidate will lead the mechanical design, development and implementation of innovative mechanical systems for robotic and automated systems. What we will ask of you: You are responsiblecross-functional collaboration, hands-on prototyping, and a deep understanding of mechanical design principles as they apply to dynamic, real-world applications. What we are looking for: Lead the mechanical design and development of bespoke automated equipment, custom machinery and robotic systems. Develop concepts, detailed designs and engineering drawings using Solidworks. Prepare and present technical design reviews to stakeholders, communicating design concepts, progress, and challenges. Oversee prototype development, assembly, testing and commissioning of equipment. Interface with clients and stakeholders to gather requirements and provide technical support. Support project management in scheduling, cost estimation and progress tracking. Ensure designs comply with relevant safety standards and directives (e.g. CE marking, ISO, Machinery Directives). Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers in technical and professional development. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. Collaborate with electrical, controls and software engineers to ensure system integration. Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, standards, and regulations related to mechanical design and engineering. Essential Criteria Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within an automation, special purpose machinery or robotics industry. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Draftsight) Familiarity with automation equipment such as conveyors, robotics, pick-and-place systems and machine vision. Proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects from concept to completion. Good understanding of manufacturing processes and materials. Experience with pneumatic systems. Excellent problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills. Desirable: Industry Standards & Safety Compliance: Awareness of CE marking, ISO machinery directives and risk assessment methodologies. Design for Manufacturability (DFM) & Assembly (DFA): Ability to design components that are easy and cost-effective to fabricate and assemble. Rapid Prototyping & Hands-on Fabrication: Comfortable working with 3D printers and machine shop tools. PLC and Control Systems Familiarity: Basic understanding of how mechanical systems interface with PLCs and HMIs. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) & Motion Simulation: Ability to run stress, vibration and dynamic simulations to optimise performance and reliability. What will we do for you?
