Family Engagement Worker Swansea Job Description Role Family Engagement Worker Service Barod Family Team Location: Swansea Barod Base 73/74 Mansel Street Hours: 37 Salary: £26,265 - £28,314 per annum Reports to: Team Leader Team Members Reporting to Job Holder: Volunteers and Peer Mentors No direct staff reports Contract: Permanent in line with funding The Service The family service provides a Swansea wide service for people who are experiencing problems in relation to their own drug and/or alcohol use. Using a ‘Hidden Harm’ approach, Barod’s substance use service is a specialised support provision that focuses on addressing the impact of parental or familial substance use on children, young people, and other vulnerable family members. The term "hidden harm" refers to the often overlooked and unspoken effects that someone else’s substance use can have on those around them, particularly children. The service will promote harm reduction and support families to improve the desired outcomes within the realms of safeguarding. Examples of these outcomes include improved child safety and wellbeing, reduced intergenerational cycles of drug use, and enhanced family functioning and relationships. Role Purpose The aim of the Service is to provide integrated substance use treatment to families to support and enable universal and targeted services to respond to substance use issues. The family service delivers specialist drug and alcohol services for people (Tier 3 support), provides support for existing generic (Tier 1) and youth-orientated (Tier 2) services and works in partnership with multiple agencies across Swansea to provide a holistic programme of care. The family service works in partnership with the Complex service (Tier 3 specialist interventions, in line with the Health Advisory Service’s Tiered Model), which includes: prescribing, detoxification or respite support and thereby ensuring an integrated and seamless care pathway. The family service also has robust in-house links with the adult service, enabling appropriate joint working and a seamless link Main Duties and Responsibilities The aim of the Swansea Family Service is to provide services to families in relation to substance related harm by: Working in partnerships to provide a comprehensive and seamless services to people using substances whatever their level of need. Delivering the agreed local system of triage and comprehensive assessment appropriate to the presenting need. Training and supporting Tier 1 & 2 services to identify at risk children and young people with regards to Hidden Harm. Targeting high risk and local priority groups. Engaging people with issues relating to their own substance use. Reducing substance related harms to families. Improving and supporting family’s motivation for change. Appropriately assessing and allowing individualised care pathways to be developed with the whole family. Providing a range of evidence-based interventions. Supporting people to maintain or build positive social networks. Ensuring all people are contacted if they disengage with the service. Signposting identified populations affected by drug and alcohol use to appropriate services where they fall outside of the remit of this specification. Involving families and carers in the treatment of individuals where appropriate. Maintaining good working relationships with key partners across all Tiers in particular CDAT, Social Services, and Family Services. Person Specification Ideally all these requirements must be met by the candidate on appointment. However, in certain circumstances a candidate may be appointed who does not meet a particular requirement. This is providing that the shortfall can be made good in a reasonable time, and the candidate brings other skills, knowledge or experience which are valuable to the role and the Organisation. Essential Desirable Qualifications and training Full, current driving licence and use of a vehicle which is insured for business use. Level 3 in Advice and Guidance (or equivalent). Degree in a Health and Social Care related topic (or equivalent). Training in any of the following areas: Safeguarding Boundaries Substance Awareness Harm Reduction Safer Injecting Psychosocial Interventions Role-related knowledge, experience and skills Time management skills. Literacy and numeracy skills. Excellent IT skills: competency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva and Internet Explorer. Ability to problem solve, work under own initiative and able to work under pressure. Ability to work flexibly as part of a collaborative team. Effective interpersonal and networking skills.
