Overview

Senior Mental Health Support Worker – Papist. 37 hours per week. Based at Papist Way, Wallingford. Salary £27,560 – £30,680 per annum (salaries vary depending on experience). Hours include mornings, evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins; inclusive of bank holidays. This role sits within Response, which aims to enable people of all ages to live a more fulfilled life by providing excellent mental health services, housing, and supported living.

Our mission is to empower and promote independence for people with mental health needs and coexisting conditions. This role involves leading shifts, supporting residents with daily living activities, and contributing to a positive, person-centred care environment.


What Youll Be Doing

* Lead shifts and delegate tasks to team members; manage incidents and ensure health and safety for residents and the project.
* Mentor support workers, lead by example, and manage your own caseload.
* Provide person-centred support to residents with serious mental illness, including adults with primary diagnoses such as psychotic illness and coexisting physical health issues, neurodiversity, substance use, and cognitive impairment.
* Respond to service phone queries from internal and external customers, and escalate or delegate as appropriate.
* Undertake assessments of referrals and participate in regular assessment and risk management training.
* Assist with medication administration where required and support residents in daily living activities (e.g., education, employment, budgeting, meal planning, using public transport, accessing community resources).
* Monitor risk and maintain up-to-date risk management plans; ensure safeguarding policies are followed for Adults and Children and Young People.
* Represent the company professionally, maintaining punctuality, appropriate appearance, and professional boundaries, including equal opportunities.


The Successful Applicant

Essential criteria:

* GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent).
* A commitment to continual personal development.
* Detailed understanding of mental health and wellbeing challenges and the level of care required by residents.
* Understanding of current approaches to mental health practice.
* Knowledge of how to support with referrals and assessments.
* Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion issues affecting people\'s lives.
* IT literacy with experience using MS Office packages.
* Previous related work experience.
* Good communication skills (written and verbal) and active listening.
* A genuine interest in mental health and well-being with a commitment to delivering Response\'s mission.

Desirable: ability to work within a One Team approach and lead by example.
