Chief Financial Officer (SMF 3)
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will play a pivotal role in shaping our future — as a strategic partner on the Executive team and Board, and as a steward of long-term value across a complex, purpose-led organisation.
Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Board, the CFO will:
* Provide strategic leadership and insight to support the formulation and delivery of corporate strategy.
* Lead and optimise corporate service functions including Legal & Governance, Finance (inc First Line Risk Assurance), Strategy, Procurement, and Internal Audit 3rd party management
* Fulfil a leadership and ambassadorial role across the Company, Partner Funds, and external stakeholders.
We are looking for a senior finance leader and Executive with the experience and insight to navigate complexity, drive performance, and lead with integrity. Whether your background is in financial management, enterprise strategy, or another demanding environment, what matters most is your ability to:
* Navigate financial and regulatory complexity with confidence and integrity
* Build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups
* Lead through change with empathy, clarity and commercial insight
The following is key for success:
Proven experience as a CFO, (or similar), within a financial services organisation inclusive of strategic and business planning.
The capability to serve in both Executive and Board capacities and satisfy the requirements of the FCA's Senior Manager and Certification Regime.
Ability to work collaboratively with CEO and Board level stakeholders, senior leaders, shareholders and customers, demonstrating strong interpersonal and influencing skills with high levels of integrity and trustworthiness
Extensive interest and ability to lead, coach and develop colleagues. Able to be a role model fostering the organisations values – Integrity, Collaboration, Sustainable.
Border to Coast
Border to Coast is the largest LGPS (Local Government Pension Scheme) pool in the UK. It is owned by 11 Local Government Pension Schemes ('Partner Funds'). The Partner Funds represent 3,000 employers and over 1.1 million members.
The Partner Funds are Bedfordshire, Cumbria, Durham, East Riding, Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Surrey, Teesside, Tyne and Wear and Warwickshire.
The Partner Funds have £65.3bn in investments, of which Border to Coast is responsible for managing £55.4bn (as of 31 March 2025) across equities, fixed income, private markets, and global and UK real estate.
In addition, seven LGPS funds have confirmed their intention to join the pool, creating a new collaborative partnership. The seven funds are Cambridgeshire, East Sussex, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Northamptonshire and West Sussex, collectively they have c.£45bn of investments.
