Canons House supports children and young people aged 5 to 17 with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex health and care needs. The role is for a Child Care Officer Assistant to support vulnerable children, help them access a range of activities, and contribute to care planning, risk assessment and collaboration with health professionals, social workers, schools and other agencies. The role includes working towards achieving an NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
Salary: £25,989 - £26,824

Responsibilities
* Work as part of a team, participate in handovers, support the shift leader in planning activities, follow instructions to ensure smooth operations, be flexible with disruptions/changes within the daily routine.
* Participate in creating and maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for children and young people; undertake mandatory training and report health and safety concerns to the shift leader.
* Work on the agreed rotas, including evenings, sleeping-in duties and weekend duties as required for the efficient running of the Home.
* Act as a key worker for a small number of children; gain an in-depth understanding of key children and liaise with professionals to act in the best interest of the child.
* Assess needs of key children with senior staff to write reports and update support plans and risk assessments.
* Recognise safeguarding concerns and report to the shift leader; maintain safeguarding knowledge through Wiltshire Council e-learning and follow reporting procedures when the shift leader is absent.
* Engage in individual and group recreational activities in-house and in the community.
* Assist in delivering a range of specialist support and care, including some complex medical care needs; training in areas such as complex health needs (e.g., enteral feeding) and staying up to date with regulations and individual needs.
* Provide for emotional and basic physical needs, including personal care where appropriate.
* Attend staff meetings, supervision, appraisals and any required training; complete Canons House induction.
* Engage and listen to children and young people individually and in groups, reporting outcomes to the shift leader.
* Develop and support an environment that stimulates children and fosters independence and self-help skills in line with individual plans; empower with a person-centred approach.
* Comply with health and safety policies, report accidents, and follow home procedures.
* Seek advice from senior/line manager for any concerns.
