Clinical Support Worker/Clinical Support Higher Level

An opportunity has become available to join the Older Persons Medicine team on ward 12 at James Cook University Hospital. Working as a Health Care Support Worker within the team you will help care for 27 patients.

Candidates should have a passion for the care of patients with complex medical needs and frailty syndromes including Dementia, Delirium and Falls.

Our vision is to provide high quality specialist multidisciplinary care to older people in an environment that is both supportive and friendly but also with an ethos of continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

Post holders will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon qualifications.

Band 2 requirements - willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role.

Band 3 requirements - Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)

Care certificate

or

Short courses and completion of

competency workbook equivalent

to Level 3 in a range of patient and

and/or

Equivalent knowledge and

experience in a range of clinical

care duties equivalent to Level 3;

- Theoretical knowledge

- Experience of a range of

care and related procedures

- clinical observations

- knowledge of relevant

legislation

There is a clear framework to allow for postholders to develop from a band 2 to band 3 and this includes completion of the qualifications.

Leadership and Improvement Training

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff. This training programme has been designed to support our staff in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the following training sessions

Service Improvement for Beginners

After you complete these one and a half days of training, you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities. We also offer a range of additional in-house courses and bitesize programmes through our Leadership and Improvement Team.

Person Specification


Knowledge

* Excellent interpersonal, communication and active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles and methods of communication.
* Time-keeping, planning and prioritisation skills.
* Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems
* Analytical and judgement skills to make decisions based on patient / service user interactions and observations and metrics.
* Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision.


Experience

* Experience of working in health or social care
* Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalation of changes or findings.


Qualifications Band 3

* Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or Maths & English GCSE A-C/4-9 or Maths & English O Level/GCE A-C or Maths & English CSE Grade 1 or NARIC/ENIC which compares the qualification to UK GCSE (https://www.enic-naric.net/)
* Care certificate
* Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3. - Theoretical knowledge - Experience of a range of care and related procedures - clinical observations - knowledge of relevant legislation


Qualifications Band 2

* Must complete the care certificate within the 6 months probationary period and 'on the job training'; instruction will be provided - this is an NHS entry level
