Associate Consultant at AJ Chambers | Connecting Top Talent to Leading Accountancy Practices across the Northern Home Counties
Salary – £65,000 to £90,000 (DOE)

Role Summary
We are working with one of our long‑standing clients, a forward‑thinking and growing firm of chartered accountants, who are entering an exciting period of expansion following the acquisition of a new portfolio. The firm will be integrating this portfolio, along with its staff, into their newly established Royston office; a modern, shared‑services site featuring a café, bistro, and over 200 parking spaces.
They are now seeking an experienced Senior Manager or Associate Director to take full responsibility for this new portfolio, managing a small team, overseeing the transition, and continuing to develop strong client relationships from the outset.
This is a hands‑on general practice role (no audit), encompassing accounts, tax, and business advisory services. You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of the team and driving the firm’s continued success.
Key Responsibilities
* Take ownership of the newly acquired portfolio (£530k–£570k fee base), ensuring a smooth and effective transition.
* Manage and develop a small team of 3–4, providing daily support, guidance, and mentorship.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships from day one.
* Oversee accounts, tax, and advisory assignments, ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget.
* Review work completed by junior team members before Partner review.
* Contribute to business development and firmwide initiatives.
* Maintain high technical standards and ensure exceptional client service quality.
* Competitive salary of £65,000 – £90,000 (depending on experience).

* Proven general practice background across accounts and tax.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills.
* Commercially minded with a strong client relationship focus.
* Able to obtain or already hold a practising certificate.
