Join Our Team as a Family Support Worker Keeping Families Together Service Location: Darlington Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday) – TOIL available for additional hours Contract: Initial 3-month contract (with potential for extension) Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children, young people, and families? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Family Support Worker to join our Keeping Families Together Service—a team committed to providing targeted, compassionate, and practical support to help families thrive. In this rewarding role, you’ll work both independently and alongside Social Workers and other professionals to offer bespoke packages of support, helping children and their families build resilience, improve relationships, and create positive change. What You’ll Be Doing: Providing direct one-to-one support to children, young people, and families, both in their homes and the community. Undertaking home visits, completing direct work with children, and offering parenting advice and guidance. Supporting children who are subject to Child in Need, Child Protection plans, or are Looked After by the local authority. Helping families understand and engage with intensive interventions as part of an overall care plan. Working collaboratively with social workers, schools, health professionals, and other agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children. Keeping accurate records and maintaining confidentiality at all times. What We’re Looking For: Experience working with children, young people, and families in a supportive role—this could be through social care, education, youth work, family support, or other relevant settings. Knowledge of safeguarding, child development, and family dynamics. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children, families, and professionals. Ability to work flexibly, independently, and as part of a team. A commitment to Darlington Borough Council’s values: Respect, Innovate, Collaborate, Deliver.Previous experience in a similar role or transferable skills from related fields (e.g., teaching assistant, youth worker, health visitor support) is highly desirable. ✅ Essential Requirements: Relevant childcare or social care qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent). Full enhanced DBS check (we can help arrange this). Flexibility to work occasional unsocial hours if required. Ability to travel independently around Darlington and surrounding areas.
