We’d love to hear from you if you’re:ability to carry out physical tasks to protect and improve land, habitats, and access • confidence in helping visitors understand and enjoy the place and its conservation work • understanding of safety procedures and ability to help others stay safe • experience in working well with colleagues and supporting volunteers • capability to organise work and use tools, time and materials responsibly • awareness of how to help the property run well and support its long-term future • a driver with a full UK driving licence RangerAt Calstone and Cherhill you will find 200ha rolling chalk downland and dry coombe valleys with an abundance of species rich chalk grassland flowers and butterflies and an Iron age hillfort with breath-taking panoramic views of the Wiltshire landscape. There are many important and rare invertebrate and plant species such as the Burnt Tip orchid and Wart biter cricket and the opportunity to become involved in species recovery work for both these and several other important plant and butterfly species. Further west we look after Sutton Lane Meadows, with thousands of Green Winged orchids and new to the portfolio are the countryside sites around Lacock, Great Chalfield and Westwood Manor with fantastic opportunities to help with the creation of new woodlands & hedges and the management of lowland floodplain meadows. Throughout the portfolio you will be working alongside skilled and experienced fellow rangers with opportunities to soak up the specialist knowledge of our archaeologists and wildlife advisers.There is lots going on, including scrub management, practical estate maintenance work, regular volunteer work parties, and ecological surveying, to name but a few elements of this exciting ranger role.Line managed by the Area Ranger for Lacock you will be directly involved with the two important but quite different SSSI grassland sites at Calstone and Cherhill and Sutton Lane meadows, as well as supporting the work of at Lacock, Great Chalfield, Westwood Manor and Bewley Common. You will work both on your own and with other members of staff, as well as with several volunteer groups supervising them on a variety of practical tasks. It is all about being outside and getting your hands dirty, looking after our nature and heritage, and making our sites accessible for our many visitors.With your endless passion for our work, you will help with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery, and your passion will inspire others to love these beautiful places as much as you do.
