Main duties of the job

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Advanced practitioner for this Associate Nurse Consultant development post to lead the development and delivery of our innovative Women’s Health and Well-Being Hubs across three female prison sites in Surrey: HMP Bronzefield, HMP Send, and HMP Downview.

This is a pioneering role where your clinical expertise, leadership and advanced practice skills will directly shape services for women in custody, individuals who frequently experience complex health inequalities, including trauma, self-harm, substance misuse, reproductive health concerns, and long-term physical and mental health challenges.

The Women’s Health Hubs are dedicated, nurse-led, nurse-delivered spaces designed to deliver accessible, trauma-informed, integrated care. They aim to improve health outcomes, reduce reliance on urgent and emergency interventions, and provide structured, proactive healthcare for some of the most marginalised women in our society.

Working for our organisation

As an Associate Nurse Consultant, you will:

8. Provide clinical leadership and oversight across all three Women’s Health Hubs.
9. Lead and support teams of Advanced Practitioners and Nursing Associates.
10. Take responsibility for all four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research.
11. Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care and lead on initiatives to reduce health inequalities.
12. Supervise, mentor, and develop nursing staff to embed trauma-informed, patient-centred practice.
13. Undertake clinical and regulatory audits, quality improvement programmes, and research activity.
14. Contribute to the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring high professional standards and safe, effective care delivery.
15. Inspire, influence, and motivate colleagues across the service to deliver excellence in women’s health within a health and justice context.

What we offer:

16. A unique and rewarding opportunity to transform healthcare for women in prisons.
17. Dedicated time and resources to lead clinical, educational, research, and leadership programmes.
18. A bespoke clinical leadership career pathway including professional development, mentorship, research opportunities, and supervision.
19. The chance to shape and influence the future of trauma-informed care for women within health and justice services.
