Torbay Council Children’s Services is looking for dedicated, curious, and compassionate newly qualified social workers to join our well regarded ASYE programme in September. Our ASYE programme provides a caring, supportive and high‑quality learning and development environment designed to enable you to build strong foundations for your future career. We are seeking pro‑active, resilient, curious graduates, ideally with previous experience of a statutory Children’s services placement who want to extend their knowledge and skills to meet the Practice Standards for Child and Family Social Workers.

We will be opening our Assessment centre week commencing 1st June 2026. Candidates will showcase their skills, knowledge, talents and selves through interview, presentation and practice‑based group discussion.
Skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to demonstrate skills in mediation, negotiation and problem solving.
* Able to assess situations with clarity and sensitivity and act professionally in crisis situations.
* Ability to work in an open and challenging way with families.
* Ability to prepare and present reports in a variety of settings.
This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
Knowledge
* General knowledge of the range of options available to children, young people and their families.
* Knowledge of appropriate child care legislation and how it affects children and young people.
* Knowledge of current CP practice, framework for Assessment and CLA materials.
* Awareness and understanding of relevant Child Care issues.
* Knowledge and understanding of application of an evidence base in practice.
Experience & Qualifications
* Direct work with Children, Young People, Families and professionals.
* Experience of working independently and as part of a team.
* Social Work degree qualification, e.g., Dip SW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent.
