Operations Director
Chelmsford - 4x days per week
A well-established UK consumer brand within the fashion sector is looking to appoint an experienced Operations Director to join its senior leadership team.
This is a high-impact role responsible for shaping how the business operates across multiple channels, with a clear focus on improving efficiency, enabling growth, and strengthening the end-to-end customer experience.
Working at executive level, you’ll help set the direction for operational capability across the organisation, ensuring systems, people, and processes are aligned to commercial priorities. The role blends strategic leadership with hands-on delivery, requiring someone who can drive transformation while maintaining day-to-day operational performance across a fast-moving retail environment.
Key responsibilities
* Lead multi-channel operations spanning wholesale, ecommerce, and marketplace activity
* Oversee supply chain performance, including inbound logistics, forecasting, and stock flow optimisation
* Champion continuous improvement initiatives, including automation and process redesign
* Own the development and optimisation of core systems, data infrastructure, and digital capability
* Partner with commercial teams to ensure operational alignment with sales and growth plans
* Strengthen product data accuracy, order processing, and end-to-end fulfilment performance
* Manage supplier and third-party relationships to ensure service, cost, and quality standards are met
* Guide facilities and workplace operations, ensuring safe, efficient and scalable environments
* Drive resolution of complex operational challenges and embed long-term corrective actions
* Build, lead and develop high-performing teams across multiple functional areas
Skills & experience required
* Strong track record in senior operational leadership within retail, consumer goods, or similar sectors - (a background in fashion, apparel and/or accessories domain in particular)
* Comfortable operating across both strategic planning and detailed execution
* Demonstrated ability to lead change, transformation, or large-scale process improvement
* Strong commercial judgement with the ability to balance service, cost, and growth priorities
* Confident working across cross-functional teams including IT, supply chain, and commercial stakeholders
* Highly numerate with strong analytical and problem-solving capability
* Experienced in managing external partners, vendors, and service providers
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of an organisation
