About The Role
As Purchase Ledger & Cashier Supervisor, you will lead and support a team that delivers accurate and timely purchase ledger and cashiering activities across the Scottish operation. You will oversee day‑to‑day financial processing – invoice management, payments, reconciliations, and reporting – ensuring compliance with internal policies, VAT requirements, and financial controls. The role also drives process improvement, supports finance projects, and maintains strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, banks, and auditors.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead regular team meetings and training sessions to ensure coverage of all roles, identify process improvements, and keep the team up to date with legislation and VAT requirements.
* Manage a high volume and variety of invoices, ensuring accurate processing in line with established procedures through to payment, including allocation of costs and direct debits. Work closely with Purchasing and PO requisitioners to resolve invoice and payment queries.
* Prepare and execute BACS payments and Direct Debit collections efficiently and accurately. Allocate customer receipts promptly and process employee E‑forms, manual expense claims, and credit card transactions in a timely manner.
* Download and reconcile banking transactions from CBO, ensuring the cash book is updated and bank accounts are reconciled daily. Reconcile supplier statements and maintain accurate supplier account records.
* Run, monitor and manage daily financial and operational reports. Produce ad hoc reports and analyses as requested by the business.
* Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, procurement teams and suppliers, to offer timely information and resolve queries effectively.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a hands‑on supervisor who combines strong leadership with a willingness to actively contribute to the team’s workload. The ideal candidate is organised, detail‑focused, collaborative, and has proven experience in purchase ledger and cashier functions. You should confidently prioritise deadlines, improve processes, and communicate effectively with finance colleagues and wider stakeholders. A proactive approach, strong Excel and systems knowledge, and up‑to‑date VAT awareness are essential, as are the ability to balance supervisory duties with being an active, working member of the team.
Qualifications & Skills
* Strong working knowledge of purchase ledger and cashier finance systems.
* Previous supervisory experience is essential.
* Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and numeracy skills.
* Proficient IT skills, including Excel.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of VAT legislation.
