About The Role
Payroll & People Advisor
Permanent, Full Time
£26,315 up to £30,959 per annum
Location: Chelmsford
Working Style: Anywhere worker
This position has an Anywhere Worker working style, but we will require you to attend the office in Chelmsford on average 1 day a week around business need.
We are looking for someone with a strong understanding and experience of compiling contracts of employment and HMRC statutory absence legislation, also knowledge of tax, national insurance and pension regulation contributions and system knowledge to undertake user acceptance testing.
The Payroll service sits within the People, Policy, Economy and Public Health function. It aims to influence both the customer and employee experience in employee engagement, providing a comprehensive service, investing in new technology to support users and enable self-service.
The Payroll & People Advisor will provide a high-quality payroll and customer-focused transactional service, handling a high volume of diverse transactions and working to strict deadlines. Responsibilities include resolving payroll queries and performing analytical processing within payroll disciplines.
You will support and resolve issues efficiently at the first point of contact, providing advice, support, and guidance in a simple, clear, and effective manner, including communication and processes.
Accountabilities
* Ensure data input accuracy for correct payments and deductions, supporting employees in using self-service where possible.
* Resolve complex payroll queries within agreed SLAs.
* Manage payroll processes, generate payments, and handle statutory reporting.
* Maintain the integrity and security of personal, contractual, and financial information in compliance with legislation and policies.
* Work collaboratively within a team to deliver high-standard outputs.
* Respond to customer inquiries promptly and professionally via various channels.
* Drive service improvement and system testing to exceed customer expectations.
* Meet individual and shared targets set within the performance management framework.
The Experience You Will Bring
Essential:
* Experience with contracts of employment, HMRC statutory absence legislation, tax, national insurance, pension contributions, and system knowledge for user acceptance testing.
* Continuing professional development, working towards a CIPP qualification.
* Accurate data input for payments and deductions in line with statutory and contractual requirements.
* Experience using payroll systems to deliver quality service.
* Good knowledge of payroll processes including statutory payments, deductions, and pensions.
Desirable:
* Collaborative policy advice and good practice delivery.
* Effective communication, empathy, listening, questioning, and high-standard written skills.
* Experience in a customer-oriented environment, handling queries, and continuous service improvement.
