BACKGROUND On 17 June 2024, the Scottish Government launched a consultation seeking views on the future of the governance arrangements in the Glasgow and Lanarkshire college regions. The proposal consulted on was for the Regional Strategic Bodies to cease within the regions and the colleges within the regions to become regional colleges. Following analysis, Scottish Ministers agreed to proceed with the proposed plans, and on 11 December 2024 announced that the Scottish Government would proceed with plans to: Dissolve the Glasgow Colleges’ Regional Board, the Regional Strategic Body for the Glasgow college region. No longer have New College Lanarkshire, designated as the Regional Strategic Body for the Lanarkshire college region; and Designate each of the Glasgow and Lanarkshire colleges as “regional colleges”. As a result, the Minister for Higher Education, Further Education & Veterans seeks to appoint a new Chair to the board of South Lanarkshire College. It is the intention of the Scottish Ministers that the chair appointment to this College board will be regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner, prior to them taking up their roles. The draft legislation confirming this intention is subject to the approval of the Scottish Parliament. The Commissioner has agreed to assign a representative to serve as a panel member for the appointment round, whilst the legislation is being progressed. If the legislation is not passed, the round will be halted, and no appointments will be made. If the legislation is delayed, no appointments will be made until such time as it comes into force. REMUNERATION AND TIME COMMITMENT This position attracts a remuneration rate of £211, plus reasonable expenses. It is anticipated that you will devote up to 2 days per week to performing your functions as and when required, up to a maximum of 104 days per year. Please note this appointment is non-pensionable.
