The role
As our new Group Environmental Compliance Manager, you’ll be at the forefront of strengthening environmental assurance across a global organisation that plays a vital role in defence, aerospace, and engineering. This is a newly created role within our Group Sustainability Function, giving you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact from day one.
You’ll shape, lead, and embed environmental best practice across Babcock, helping to protect the environment while ensuring the company continues to operate responsibly and compliantly.
Day-to-day, your work will influence strategy, enhance performance, and elevate our environmental protection standards while offering you significant professional development and exposure across a diverse, international business.
1. Lead environmental assurance assessments, audits, and compliance checks across UK and international sites.
2. Support and enhance the Group’s approach to environmental protection.
3. Provide expert environmental management guidance across the organisation.
4. Develop and deliver initiatives that drive compliance and continuous improvement.
5. Analyse complex environmental data and prepare insightful reporting for stakeholders.
This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and will operate under hybrid working arrangements. Please be aware that regular (Monthly) UK travel will be required as well as international travel once a quarter.
Essential experience of the Group Environmental Compliance Manager:
6. Extensive professional experience in environmental management and environmental legislation, with a knowledge of international regulatory requirements, and best‑practice compliance standards.
7. Proven experience developing, maintaining, and auditing ISO Environmental Management Systems, including conducting internal audits, supporting certification audits, and driving continual improvement initiatives.
8. Proven expertise in leading site and portfolio level environmental compliance reviews, site inspections, and assurance activities including knowledge and experience in managing key environmental controls and procedures, such as waste management, pollution prevention controls, spill response, nuisance management (e.g., noise, dust, odour), water quality protection, and resource efficiency measures.
9. Strong ability to manage, interrogate, and analyse complex data sets, notably in relation to environmental incident reporting.
10. Excellent communication skills and experience preparing high‑quality written reports, environmental performance summaries, risk assessments, and audit findings for senior leadership.
Qualifications for the Group Environmental Compliance Manager:
11. Degree in Environmental Management or a related discipline.
12. Membership of ISEP or an equivalent professional body.
13. Recognised internal auditor qualification.
14. Advanced Environmental Management certification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management).
