Working within our R&D Team, a position has arisen for a R&D Technician to join on a full time, permanent basis. The is a varied scientific role day to day that will start as providing support for analysis, sample preparation, pilot plant & Extruder operation and product development and improvement. The role will involve the use of scientific equipment using various different testing methods. There will be significant training and ample opportunity to develop new skills, making this an excellent opportunity to begin a scientific career in Research & Development.
Responsibilities
* Work within CPL's health & safety policies and procedures.
* Material characterisation of raw materials and solid fuels using a wide range of testing methods, both established and newly developed by R&D.
* Housekeeping (Work area and equipment).
* Assist and support in the development of new testing methods, including equipment procurement and setting up and commissioning of systems.
* Conduct lab scale research trials using a wide range of methods and equipment.
* Collaborate with the R&D team.
* Sample preparation (Procuring, drying, crushing, sizing, weighing).
* Supporting ad hoc projects and tasks required by the business/ liasing with other departments.
* With support from the R&D SF manager, conduct pilot scale trials using the pilot rolls press.
* Accurate data entry into MS Excel.
* Maintain accurate records of data and observations.
* Reporting results to SF manager and other managers.
* Booking in samples and sample dispatch.
Skills
* Can work on your own with minimal supervision (once trained).
* Can work as part of a team.
* Open to flexibility with respect to changing workloads.
* Proficiency in maths for data analysis, calculations and weighing out materials.
* Willingness to learn and ask questions with an inquisitive mind.
* Good communication skills to collaborate with team members and external suppliers.
* Attention to detail and accurate.
* Accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Be prepared for a dirty working environment.
* Good time management for working on several projects at a time.
