Health And Safety Manager

Hobart & Hobart Service is part of the Food Equipment sector of the ITW Group.

This is a fixed term role for a period of 6 to 12 months


Role Description

Ensure the Hobart business has a ‘fit for purpose’ Safety strategy, applying the required focus, knowledge and resources, to effectively execute the Safety strategy in the context of the business’ risk profile and needs.

The Health & Safety Manager will ensure Hobart UK has a fit-for-purpose safety strategy aligned with legal requirements, industry best practice, and the organisation’s risk profile. Acting as the company’s appointed Health & Safety professional, the role will lead the continuous improvement of safety culture, ensure full compliance with all relevant HSE legislation, and maintain ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards within the ISO 9001 framework.

The role is accountable for upgrading business standards, systems, communication, training, and processes related to Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management. This includes mentoring senior leaders and supporting functional teams through practical, efficient data and process structures.

This role is both office and field based and requires regular travel for site visits and training activities.


Person Specification

* Degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
* IOSH Level 6 Diploma in OSH Leadership or NEBOSH Diploma.
* Proven Health & Safety experience within manufacturing, engineering, or a similar environment.
* Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation and regulatory frameworks.
* Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify hazards and implement effective controls.
* Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Experience with permitting processes (advantageous)


HSE Expertise & Business Management System Improvement

* Develop, implement, and continuously refine the Health & Safety Management System to meet legal, regulatory, and good‑practice standards.
* Establish and deliver a robust inspection and audit programme to monitor HSE performance.
* Measure, analyse, and report HSE performance and benchmark against industry norms.
* Advising on the maintenance and improvement of safe systems of work.
* Review and enhance safe systems of work and ensure policies and procedures remain practical, effective and aligned with risk prevention.
* Champion a Safety‑First culture across the business; communicate expectations clearly to all employees.
* Provide frameworks, systems, guidance and practical tools to all employees to facilitate HSE legislation, HSG guidance and best practice.
* Lead employee consultation groups and coordinate with appointed Safety Representatives on behavioural and compliance work.
* Identifying health and safety competence requirements and advise on appropriate development actions.
* Support and deliver HSE training, toolbox talks, inductions, and incident investigations.
* Review risk assessments and method statements, offering expert advice where required.
* Represent Hobart UK at ITW EU divisional and platform HSE governance forums.
* Report any LTAs externally in line with regulatory requirements.
* Manage eLearning platforms for HSE training and compliance tracking.


Auditing & Business Representation

* Maintain all relevant accreditations and certifications.
* Plan and manage external, internal, corporate compliance, and insurance audits.
* Manage third party surveillance audits and ensure timely closure of actions.
* Produce and maintain accurate documentation and records.
* Act as the primary contact for local authorities regarding HSE licensing, permitting, environmental approvals, and fire safety.
* Represent and defend the business in HSE related claims or litigation.
* Conduct Assurance Visits for Sodexo contracts to ensure compliance and best practice.
* Lead H&S account reviews with key stakeholders to assess HSE performance and improvement opportunities.


Contractor schemes, company submissions and applications

* Provide support for applications and renewals of Contractor Schemes to facilitate Commercial opportunities.
* Develop an accessible information management system supports employees to find the relevant information to support their own applications and submissions.
* Train employees in the use of systems and processes related to external applications.
* Manage the WTW - Finex Globel - ITW Professional liability auditing and policy.


General

* Ensure full compliance with GDPR and all company policies, including equal opportunities, anti‑bribery, health & safety, data protection, and information security.
* Collaborate across functions to maintain legal compliance and minimise operational risk.
* Demonstrate safe working behaviours and support the Enterprise Strategy target of zero medical‑treated or lost‑time accidents.
* Other appropriate duties as assigned by management.
