Job Title: People & Payroll Officer

About the Role
An established public sector organisation is seeking an experienced People & Payroll Officer to join their HR team on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave.
This role will provide essential transactional HR and payroll support, ensuring employee records and payroll activities are accurate, compliant, and delivered in a timely manner. You will play a key role in supporting employees across the organisation while contributing to continuous improvement within HR services.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver day-to-day HR and payroll administration support
* Maintain accurate employee records and ensure data integrity within HR systems
* Support payroll processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments
* Assist with routine reporting and data requests
* Support HR systems maintenance and updates
* Contribute to security checks and vetting processes
* Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures
* Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation
* Identify opportunities for service improvement within HR processes
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
* Previous experience in HR administration and/or payroll support
* Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
* Experience maintaining HR systems and employee records
* Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and HR/payroll systems
Desirable
* Experience working in the public sector
* Knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance
* Experience supporting HR processes such as vetting or onboarding
